Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) is a growing healthcare specialist centre consisting of 3 centres of excellence namely The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), Brunei Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) and Maxillofacial, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Centre (MFPRSC).

PJSC provides quality and tailored medical and rehabilitative treatments to patients with cancer, stroke and other neurological problems within the country, around and beyond the region.

Requirements:

  • An Undergraduate Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professional Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam.
  • A Postgraduate Degree in Clinical Dietetics or Nutrition and Dietetics from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professional Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam would be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 years of working experience in hospital environment 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in clinical dietetics practice especially nutrition in oncology, stroke rehabilitation and neurology 
  • Educate clients with evidence-based nutritional principles and applied dietetics 
  • Demonstrate high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to pro-actively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery 
  • Communicate effectively on patient’s nutrition care information 
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team 
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning 
  • Provides dietary education using client/patient-centered counselling skill to facilitate nutrition and lifestyle change
  • Assist in the design of clinical pathways and procedures for monitoring nutritional issues 
  • Plan and organize resources to achieve effective nutrition care policy in allocated wards and dietetic specialties 
  • Responsible for some administrative tasks which may include records of patient-related statistics, client bookings and etc

  • An Undergraduate Degree in Speech & Language Therapy from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professional Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam. 
  • A Postgraduate Degree in Speech & Language Therapy from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professional Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam would be an advantage. 
  • A minimum of 8 years of working experience in a hospital environment. 
  • Ability to speak in Malay would be an added advantage. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate highly developed personal organizational skills, such as efficient time and case-load management 
  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition. 
  • To formulate, deliver and evaluate individual Speech and Language Therapy treatment programs through clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice. 
  • Formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans. 
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment. 
  • Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools as appropriate to communicate effectively with patients, parents, carers and other professionals to progress rehabilitation and treatment programs.  
  • To manage clinical risk within own case-load.  
  • To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service and/or individual patients at the multidisciplinary team 
  • To ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service and integrate Speech and Language Therapy treatment into the treatment program, including discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning. 
  • May be required to cover for other clinical aspects of Speech and Language Therapy other than Neurological such as but not limited to but not limited to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Oncology or Paediatric cases depending on the demand and in the event of staff shortages 
  • To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all appropriate equipment.

Experience:

  • Senior Specialist with at least ten (10) years Clinical Experience Post Registration.

  • Bachelor degree in Natural Science with component of neurophysiology or neuroscience is essential.  
  • Masters Degree is an asset.  

  Experience: 

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in Clinical Neurophysiology 

  Principle Duties and Responsibilities 

  • To perform neurophysiology tests as directed by immediate supervisor. These include EEG(routine/video), NCS, EP(routine/intra-operative) 
  • To explain the various tests/ procedures performed on patients and if necessary, their relatives 
  • To prepare patients adequately for the various tests/ procedures (which may include a simple    history taking 
  • To provide provisional interpretation of tests performed as required. 
  • To provide appropriate care to patients and attend to their needs  
  • To assist doctors during neurological tests/[procedures when necessary(EMG / Intra-operative EP) 
  • To ensure electrical safety for patients and colleagues at all times 
  • To go on calls, as rostered by supervisor, if clinically indicated 
  • Ensure that investigations are performed early and priorities given to the clinically needful  
  • Ensure that attending physicians are alerted of abnormal results 
  • Ensure that reports are generated in a timely manner 
  • To report malfunction or a need for repairs of equipment 
  • To ensure that the neurophysiology unit (NPU) is well equipped for specialized neurophysiology work 
  • Assist supervisor and doctors to develop and implement new diagnostic tests and policies or procedures that enhance NPU’s performance 
  • Maintain a database of our patient for further audit and research purposes

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) will assist the Occupational Therapy (OT) team with the OT process, as well as in the development, implementation, and improvement of OT services under the supervision and guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.

POSITION QUALIFICATION

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma in Occupational Therapy or related health science background from an institute recognized by the Government of His Majesty of Negara Brunei Darussalam is required.
  • A Certificate or degree in related courses such as: Rehabilitation Studies, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture or Sports Physiology is also highly desirable.

Professional Experience

  • At least 1-3 years of clinical experience in a hospital or clinical setting is essential.
  • Voluntary experience in the various therapies is also highly advantageous.
  • Familiar with specific treatment techniques for rehabilitation of patients.
  • Familiar with the Occupational Therapy intervention, including instrumentation, supplies, and equipment.
  • Familiar with current, and up to date with office systems and procedures, such as word processing, managing files and records. Computer literacy, including internet and IT savvy is important.
  • Problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills are required.

Competencies

  • Able to conduct a simple OT assessment which encompasses a client’s activities of daily living (ADLS), functional abilities, cognitive abilities, their roles, and goals.
  • Able to independently administer a simple cognitive assessment such as the Mini- Mental State Examination.
  • Able to plan a patient’s treatment session, which includes identifying the modalities required for the session, what approach or frame of reference that is appropriate to use with patient.
  • Basic skill in Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, Specific treatment skills such as conflict resolution and wheelchair cushion assessment is desirable.
  • Experience in assessment and fabrication of wheelchair cushions is desirable.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical-Related Responsibilities

  1. Assist Occupational Therapists in the rehabilitation of patients through the implementation of evidence-based treatment.
  2. Facilitate patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning and educating patients on strategies that work with their limitations, as well as educating patients on home exercises programs to prevent deterioration of function and quality of life, under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.
  3. Attend to patients with acquired physical or neurological condition that impacts on their functional level and their ability to participate in their Activities of Daily living (from herewith will be referred as “ADLs”)
  4. Attend to patients who have congenital condition that is impacting on their functional level and their ability to participate in their ADLs, under the guidance and instruction of a qualified Occupational Therapist.
  5. Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice.
  6. Conduct OT assessment as instructed by supervising OT.
  7. Develop rapport and a therapeutic relationship with patients and their careers.
  8. Assist in the implementation of therapeutic programmes under the guidance and direction of supervising OT.
  9. Prescribe appropriate equipment and adaptations to patients after discussion with supervising OT.
  10. Facilitate inpatient or outpatient groups as guided and directed by OTs.
  11. Appropriately modify activities for patients as required.
  12. Consult OT for feedback on patient when appropriate, such as when patient requires modification in therapy goals or approach.
  13. Discuss with OT when encountering a complex patient who presents with multiple comorbidities, prior to prescribing intervention or activities.
  14. Assist OT in evolving treatment plans by providing OT with feedback and information on patients.
  15. Liaise with therapists and patients for patient’s daily therapy timetable.
  16. Communicate effectively with members of the OT Team regarding patients seen.
  17. Assist OT Team in ensuring that OT students receive a well-rounded experience during their attachment.

General Responsibilities

  1. Ability to present oneself in a professional manner as a representative of the hospital.
  2. Able to work both independently and as a team member within the department and the broader multidisciplinary team.
  3. Attend, participate in and support administrative meetings as required by the Head of Department/Manager where appropriate.
  4. Demonstrate effective communication skills and interact effectively with all levels of PJSC employees.
  5. Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duty including client/visitor information.
  6. Understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Seek advice from line supervisor/Manager/Head of Department when unsure of appropriate action.
  7. Work independently with minimum supervision. Uses initiative, creativity, and judgement to fulfil tasks in a logical, thorough, and efficient manner.
  8. Work within a framework of robust administrative governance and continuing professional development through:

  9. Perform all other duties as required or assigned by line supervisor/Manager/Heads of Department.
