Advice for Individuals With Spinal Cord Injuries During COVID-19 Pandemic

Every year, 5th of September is observed as the ‘Spinal Cord Injury Day’ whereby September is known as the Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. The commemoration aims to increase awareness amongst the general public on the prevention and treatment of accident and injury affecting the spinal cord.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is damage to the spinal cord which results from trauma such as road traffic accidents, falls and non-traumatic reasons such as infection, tumours, and other pathological changes. The SCI and the resultant paralysis has devastating physical, mental, social and vocational consequences for the injured.

The theme for this year, in conjunction with COVID-19 and Spinal Cord Injury is “Staying Healthy With The Help of Telecommunication and Telehealth”.
