Brunei Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) of Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) organised a successful Walkathon on World Stroke Day on Sunday, October 27th, in conjunction with the global observance of World Stroke Day on October 29th each year.
The event drew over 600 participants, including stroke survivors and patients from PJSC who enthusiastically took part and completed the walkathon course. The walkathon offered an engaging experience through six interactive checkpoints, each featuring activities to help participants understand the signs and symptoms of stroke represented by the B.E.F.A.S.T. acronym—Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, and Time—highlighting what stroke patients experience.
We were honoured to have Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, as our Guest of Honour. Our Executive Director, Dr. Haji Mazrul Adimin Bin Haji Awg Besar and World Stroke Day Chairperson, Dr. Hajah Anas Naomi Dato Paduka Haji Harun, joined in launching this meaningful event together.
We extend our appreciation to the student volunteers from JCHS and UBD IHS for their invaluable assistance, helping to make the event run smoothly throughout the day. Special thanks to @spark.bn for participating as one of the booths and providing engaging activities for our participants.
To complete the day, participants visited each checkpoint to collect stamps on their ticket which was redeemable for exclusive World Stroke Day merchandise.
On behalf on BNSRC of PJSC, we would like to send our sincerest gratitude and thank you to all who joined us in supporting stroke awareness and celebrating stroke survivors.
