Towards The End of Life From Cultural Perspectives Forum

The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), specifically Palliative Care Unit recently held a forum titled “Towards The End of Life From Cultural Perspectives” on Friday, 27th October 2023 at Lecture Theatre, PJSC RF Floor.

The forum is part of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2023 campaign activities with the aim to learn about the cultures of different indigenous groups in Brunei in approaching end of life care so that healthcare professionals can be more understanding towards such issues when facing it.

Present as the Guest of Honour during the event was Yang Mulia Dr Haji Mazrul Adimin Bin Haji Awang Besar, Executive Director of PJSC. The event was attended by 150 guests comprising of PJSC senior management team, representatives from Geriatric and Palliative Unit, RIPAS Hospital, panelists, and moderator and PJSC staffs.

Reflecting on the objective of the event, the forum saw representatives from several race groups such as Bisaya, Dusun, Chinese, Malay, Murut and Iban. Each panelist shared their insights on the cultural perspectives pertaining to customs and manners that needed to be taken care of when caring for people who are seriously ill and are at the end of life or dying.

The forum concluded with a Q&A session and presentation of certificate of appreciation to all panelists and moderator.
