Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) is a growing healthcare specialist centre consisting of 3 centres of excellence namely The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), Brunei Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) and Maxillofacial, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Centre (MFPRSC).

PJSC provides quality and tailored medical and rehabilitative treatments to patients with cancer, stroke and other neurological problems within the country, around and beyond the region.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate highly developed personal organizational skills, such as efficient time and case-load management 
  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition. 
  • To formulate, deliver and evaluate individual Speech and Language Therapy treatment programs through clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice. 
  • Formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans. 
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment. 
  • Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools as appropriate to communicate effectively with patients, parents, carers and other professionals to progress rehabilitation and treatment programs.  
  • To manage clinical risk within own case-load.

  Principle Duties and Responsibilities 

  • To perform neurophysiology tests as directed by immediate supervisor. These include EEG(routine/video), NCS, EP(routine/intra-operative) 
  • To explain the various tests/ procedures performed on patients and if necessary, their relatives 
  • To prepare patients adequately for the various tests/ procedures (which may include a simple    history taking 
  • To provide provisional interpretation of tests performed as required. 
  • To provide appropriate care to patients and attend to their needs  
  • To assist doctors during neurological tests/[procedures when necessary(EMG / Intra-operative EP) 
  • To ensure electrical safety for patients and colleagues at all times 
  • To go on calls, as rostered by supervisor, if clinically indicated

SENIOR PODIATRIST

The Senior Podiatrist will assess, treats, rehabilitates, educates and prevents a variety of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs across all ages affected by musculoskeletal injuries and pathologies, neurological and circulatory diseases and infection. They will also manage complex cases, lead clinical practices, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the overall development of the podiatry unit.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • To provide a holistic patient assessment to identify, treat and manage a clinical caseload of patients referred including those with a complex presentation or are at risk of developing foot complications (e.g. patients with Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Neurological complications, etc.) using investigative analytical skills.
  • Effectively utilize advanced clinical skills and skills in Biomechanics, gait analysis, insoles, orthotics, footwear prescription and off-loading practices.
  • As part of a multidisciplinary team in providing a quality, person centered, evidence-based podiatry service to meet the needs of service users.
  • Collaborate and liaise closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, consultants and hospital personnel, patients, carers and others on matters relating to the management and treatment of patients with foot and lower limb problems.
  • Develop local care pathways in accordance with nationally agreed clinical pathways for diabetic foot care and develop pathways for the management of at-risk patients.
  • Promote foot health and advise on self-care.
  • Provide an excellent, high standard of service to patients, in terms of sharp debridement and ulcer management.
  • Work as part of a team or independently to ensure effective day to day co-ordination and prioritization of the podiatry service within the designated work / activity areas.
  • Co-ordinate clinic appointments, organize time and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ensure optimum treatment for patients referred.
  • Responsible for the recording and updating of notes following assessment and treatment of patients.
  • Participate in any Health Promotion activities making use of available local and national tools and opportunities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A postgraduate degree in Podiatry from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professionals Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam is desirable.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Podiatry or equivalent is required.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of clinical experience in the Podiatry role is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of Postgraduate Clinical Training and Experience is desirable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years in a senior or supervisory role in a clinical environment is highly preferred.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Knowledge of treating sports-related injuries, developing rehabilitation plans, and enhancing athletic performance.
  • Proficiency in designing custom orthotic devices casting techniques, and provision of off-loading devices.
  • Skilled in managing dermatological conditions and complications from diabetes, including neuropathy and ulcers, to prevent severe consequences like amputations.
  • Proficient in conducting musculoskeletal assessments, gait analysis, evaluation of plantar pressures and improving foot alignment and function.
  • Specialized in treating congenital deformities, growth-related conditions, and injuries in children.
  • Expertise in managing age-related foot problems such as arthritis, ensuring elderly patients maintain mobility and comfort.
  • Advanced techniques in treating chronic foot wounds, promoting healing and preventing infections.
  • Clinical knowledge and understanding of quality issues relating to services.
  • Clinical knowledge to collect relevant data, identify quality gaps and propose improvement activities; and to define operational objectives for the development of advanced podiatry services in accordance with patient conditions and overall medical and rehabilitation clinical pathway plans.

  • Communicate with patients and patient’s families to progress rehabilitation and treatment programs.
  • May be required to provide House Call and/or On Call Services to patients to ensure continuous monitoring of recovery progress.
  • May be required to cover for other clinical aspect of physiotherapy other than Neurological, Musculoskeletal or Orthopedics for e.g. pediatrics, geriatrics, women’s health, palliative care etc in the event of staff shortages.

– Contribute to the training, assessment and performance management of Rehab/Therapy Assistant staff.

– Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidenced based practice, developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient types.

– Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development program to meet set knowledge and competencies.

– Be an active member of the in-service training program by attendance at, and participation in, in-service training programs, tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses and peer review.

– To undertake as directed the collection of data for use in service audit and research projects

 

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

– To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meet the required professional standards of Occupational Therapist practice.

– To be responsible for the safe and competent use of appropriate equipment by patients, junior staff and student Occupational Therapists, through teaching, training and supervision of practice.

– To take responsibility for allocating and organizing the work of assistant staff to meet service priorities on a daily basis.

– To be responsible for organizing and planning own caseload to meet service and patient priorities, readjusting plans as situations change/arise.

– To comply with the organizational and departmental policies and procedures and to follow the general and professional guidelines and standards from your country of registration/the world Confederation of Occupational Therapist.
