For any chemical peel, before treatment, you’ll receive detailed instructions to fully prepare you for the procedure. You’ll know exactly what to expect before and after treatment. We may give you prescription medication to pre-treat and prepare your skin before treatment. These may cause an initial exfoliation that will improve the results and reduce healing time. After a thorough cleansing, we cover your eyes and hair for protection. Then using one or more formulations, we apply the peeling agent to areas where your skin is damaged. You may feel a slight stinging sensation as the peel solution is applied. The chemicals will cause the outer layers of skin to separate and eventually peel off in layers. A chemical peel will both uncover fresh new skin and stimulate the production of healthy new skin.
Treatment time depends upon the formulation and the areas needing treatment. Most chemical procedures are completed in less than an hour, however, multiple sessions may be needed for the best result. Most chemical peels are completed on an outpatient basis, but you will need to have a friend or family member drive you to and from our office. Keep in mind that a chemical peel treats the skin surfaces, but does not alter the contour of sagging skin. For further rejuvenation, you may wish to combine other procedures to contour your skin, such as soft tissue fillers, a facelift, or a laser.
