International School Brunei Hosted A Cancer Awareness Talk

International School Brunei hosted a cancer awareness talk by invited speakers from The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) of Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) yesterday.

The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) had the opportunity to speak about the male and female cancers in Brunei to over 100 International School Brunei (ISB) students, specifically Year 12 and Year 13 students.

ISB Executive Principal and Chief Executive Officer Dominic Morley, ISB Head of Administration and Chief Financial Officer Vienna Law and teachers were also in attendance.

Speaking about breast cancer, cervical cancer and gynaecological cancer was Datin Dr Hjh Noraslinah Hj Ramlee, Head of Early Detection and Cancer Prevention Services (EDCPS). The importance of creating cancer awareness in the country was emphasized in her talk titled “Women’s Cancer: From Awareness To Action”.

Dr Raden Mas Jeffri Raden Mas Ismail, Consultant Medical Oncologist talked about Common Cancers in Males in Brunei Darussalam and highlighted about the importance of staying healthy such as doing regular exercise, having a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking.

The talk featured an exhibition where booths with informational posters, leaflets and interactive games were set up. PJSC hoped that the talk would empower the students to take early prevention steps such as adopting healthy lifestyle from a young age while encouraging others to do the same.
