Memory Walk Event

Dementia is a general term for the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that affects with the individual’s daily activities. It is estimated that, every 3 seconds, someone around the world develops Dementia and the main types of Dementia affecting Bruneians are Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia. 

At PJSC, many of our stroke patients are living with Dementia as stroke is one of the main causes of Vascular Dementia. As a way of showing strong support on the importance of Demetia awareness, PJSC is honoured to be part of the Memory Walk event organised by @demensiabrunei at Taman SOAS. Present as the Guest of Honor was Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports. Representing PJSC was Dr Pg Nur’ashikin Binti Pg Dato Paduka Hj Tengah, Director of The Brunei Neuroscience, Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) and the Neurology Department of BNSRC where the department has handled cases of stroke patients living with Dementia. 

The event aims to spread information about Dementia and highlighting the standard of care for someone living with the condition. With the condition being highlighted, it is hoped that the public will become more aware and show support to the people living with Dementia as well as their carers.
