The Neurology Unit at the Brunei Neurosciences Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) offers comprehensive medical care for a wide variety of Neurological conditions – affecting the brain, spinal cord, cranial and peripheral nerves and muscles, both for in-patient and out-patient services.
We are composed of highly-qualified team of Neurologists and juniors who work closely with Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologists, Neurosurgeons, Neuro-intensivists, Rehabilitation Specialists (Physiatrists) and Allied Medical Practitioners such as Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Swallowing therapists, Psychologists and Medical Social Workers to provide an optimal and holistic care for our patients.
The evaluation, diagnosis and medical management interventions include the latest and novel approaches to patients with neurological diseases. We cater to a full range of neurological disorders, including ischemic strokes; meningoencephalitis; epilepsy; headache and dizziness; movement disorders such as Parkinson disease, essential tremor, dystonia and other related neurodegenerative disorders; multiple sclerosis and related disorders; nerve and muscle diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis and myopathies; and Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Botulinum toxin injections are offered for various neurological indications.
Diagnostic Modalities
- Electroencephalography (EEG), to assess electrical activity of the brain in seizures and epilepsy.
- Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG), to assess the function of the peripheral nerves and muscles.
- Evoked potentials, to assess the integrity nervous system pathways.
- Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis or lumbar puncture.
Comprehensive acute ischemic stroke care and intervention is available with intravenous thrombolysis and Acute Stroke Unit management. Endovascular thrombectomy is also available in conjunction with our endovascular, neurosurgical and neuro-intensivist colleagues.
